Early-life cognitive enrichment is based on socioeconomic status in early life, cognitive resources at 12 years of age, cognitively stimulating activities at 6 years of age and early life foreign language instruction.

This looks a lot like the classic proxy measures of cognitive reserve which are years of education, life-long occupation, IQ, and adult reading.

This enrichment leads to less cognitive decline as well as less accumulation of amyloid in later life by promoting

1. Resilience, a concept that explains why people with more cognitive reserve maintain function despite extensive brain amyloid.

2. Resistance to Alzheimer’s disease neuropathology through an unknown mechanism of action.

Public messaging seeks to reduce risk of heart disease and cancer by promoting healthy lifestyle changes. We must also promote social policies that benefit vulnerable individuals by improving access to early childhood education.
